Gaucho Literature

Spanish American poetic genre that imitates the payadas (´┐Żballads´┐Ż) traditionally sung to guitar accompaniment by the wandering gaucho minstrels of Argentina and Uruguay. By extension, the term includes the body of South American literature that treats the way of life and philosophy of the itinerant gauchos. Long a part of South American folk literature, gaucho
